Right so I have finished rebuilding my mini city e and now its all legal to be on the road I have a problem of it holding back under acceleration but if you pull the choke more or less fully it runs and goes like a rocket, well as much as a 998 can.

Its a 998 a + and ive fitted a stage 1 kit (don't know how it ran before rebuilding the car as never had it running on std manifolds and exhaust)

The stage 1 kit is from minisport and after a bit of research seems most people have had to change the needle they supply (aav) I believe.

changed to aau needle and no difference still holds back.

I also have a powerspark distributor which I changed back to points dizzy at 10 degrees no difference

Carb set up with gunsons colourtune at idle but unless you really richen the mixture up by a massive amount of turns it wont rev any sense at all.

It ticks over lovely though which I find strange.

one think I noticed today though is some play in the butterfly spindle so wonder if its drawing air in from there.

So any thoughts anyone

Thinking I might buy a carb rebuild kit which would replace those bushes on the butterfly spindle.

What oil is in the dashpot? What spring is fitted? Go to an MOT testing station and get the emissions set up (3.0%co)

3 in 1 in the dashpot. supplied spring in minisport stage 1 kit fitted but changed back to original with no difference

Sounds like it is possibly running far too weak. Also is the timing correct as the rate of ignition may be too slow and/or the static timing too far retarded?

Could there be a small air leak in the induction system?

Is the carb piston sticking?

If the car goes OK with the choke pulled out an air leak is quite possible.

have tried advancing the timing to the point at one stage to it over running slightly when I switched it off.

Think I agree about it being to lean and having an air leak (possibly from the play in butterfly spindle?)

have to wind the mixture screw out so far for it to run any sence then my colourtune says its too rich on idle.

Piston nice and free
