Hi All,

As title, I have a HIF44 carb, which was given to me which has an automatic choke fitted. Im assuming this came from a 1275 Metro.

How do I utilise this automatic choke on a standard 1275 carb Mini or do I need to retro fit a choke spindle?

Thanks for reading

A HIF E,

I can't recall them ever being fitted to Metros, but were used on Montegos & Maestros. It's just a stepper motor, that was controlled by a "black box", if you really wanted you could probably replicate it with some modern gizmo, such as Arduino. They weren't the most reliable things anyway so many were converted back to cable - they're pretty much standard with the motor removed.

It should also have a solenoid valve float vent, you could just wire it to ignition live - the black box will have controlled it originally.

You can convert the carb to manual if you can get the donor bits from another carb.

Phil.

Excellent thanks guys.

If they are not that reliable, I will just revert it to cable when I full strip and refurb it, instead of messing with electronics.

They were also a fair old size, the stepper motor might not fit in the space available on a Mini.
