I've just caused a bit of a stir on the Facebook 500 register with people chancing their luck trying to sell these lights for astronomical prices.

I've done some very basic research and found that Hella still make these kits, and frankly at a fraction of the price. The part number is 2DA 007 428-001. They are also cross referenced with the following car manufacturers and part numbers:

CITROËN: KN.215.04
IRMSCHER: 77512095
KIA: ZK20051001
SKODA: 098 788 219
LADA: 9402-71
NISSAN: KE792-99900

You can get them from Opie Oils

https://www.opieoils...07-428-001.aspx

I've just ordered one so will report back with my findings.

I'm hoping this helps people as frankly I'm sick to death of people trying to rip off this market.

So do they have the curved face to match the inside of the rear window? I ordered a generic one a few years ago but it was flat and didn't stick on the window very well

Timmy,

Once the kit is in my hands, I'll let you know. The 'original' rover ones came with thick foam on it to match the contours, it was the same item as listed for the rover 200/400 pre 95, metro and rover 600. I'm really looking forward to receiving it now as even if it needs more parts, we can finally put this one to rest.

Well spotted. I've been watching the silly prices for these and assumed it was because they were NLA. Just ordered one from Opie. (I don't mind sticking a bit of foam around the edge if required.)

Good work Steve, I'd found an automotive/ marine electronics supplier on eBay last year that had these, but they went out of stock before I got round to ordering any. Great to have another (known) supplier with them in stock!

Well Opie Oils let me down with their stock availability, so went else where. Here is the lamp

The 500 register are having a ******* and a moan as they're saying the official light had a vinyl cover, however my point is the actual unit is cheap and not worth the £60-£100 some people are trying to sell them for!

Tell me about it, was on the 500 Fb group as I thought it would be useful for mpi stuff, had to unfollow just constant bickering about people actually using a car, or even, making a change from original aha.

Would love to know if you installed and how it went. Is this in fact curved to match the rear window and does it stick well? Im not a 500 owner so could care less if its got some hidden stamped number... on the box it came in... that disappears if a non-500 number looks at it. I do like the fact that Rover sold these as an option and that they are made by a good company. Ha

The only bit this kit is missing is the vinyl patch for the screen. This fits directly onto the rear screen so that it appears to be OE and linear as you're likely to get bubbles in the sticky back foam as you attach it. I went to look at a 500 the other day and saw exactly how they've done it. Its basically cleverly hiding the fact it doesn't fully fit the curvature of the screen. A lad from the facebook 500 page is sending my a vinyl piece that's been cut out to match the OE one. As I don't have the car built ready for it, i will report back later. But so far, i've received a few angry DMs on facebook from people trying to sell theirs for mega money saying i'm ruining the second hand mini market for them... well TS.

Jesus what a bunch of total wristers, most people would be over the moon if someone would have gone to all the trouble you have.

As if they get so precious over a 500 as well, the last desperate money grab from a failing company

Sorry to revive such an old thread but was anymore progress made on this?

Steve did the Vinyl piece work in marking the light look more OEM?

Edit: Just had a quick search for the part number 2DA 007 428-001 and is seems availability is low / non-existant anymore  :( . Unless someone knows different?

How about this for an idea?

This one: https://catalog.hell...DA 343 800-077/

And we need one of the clever bods, conversant with 3D printer designing, to design us a box, styled like the one above, into which the light could be fitted.

Some double-sided (number plate type) tape to stick it to the back window, tuck the cable in the window rubber and Robert is your mother's brother.
