I am trying to rebuild my cooper hubs .. I have NOS drive shafts and CV's, the hub carriers are original, the calipers are the originals reconditioned, the disks are new.

The disks were binding on the hub carriers at first. After much to-ing and fro-ing it transpired that the disk casting was 'unfinished', and there was an unwanted ridge, which I had removed by a friendly lathe owner. The disk now seems to measure up to one of the originals ok.

However, after putting the wheel bearings in the hub carrier, (I have tried 3 different sets of bearings), and bolting the whole lot together, the hub carrier just about fouls the disk, and so the calipers won't bolt on, and there is unequal spaces in which to put the pads ..

Something's wrong somewhere, clearly, but I can't work out what .. have I missed something obvious?

The bearing all seem to be 'self spacing' .. that is they fit hard against a collar in the middle of the hub carrier.

Here are some pics .. I hope someone can shed some light, I'm not sure what to do next! thanks

Firstly, do you have the correct 7” disks and not the Cooper S 7.5” ones?

I know with the S discs there were some that were badly made such that the would bind on the nose of the hub.
Only on original hubs as the later 8.4” ones had the very end relieved down slightly, so it was only apparent on some set ups.

I don’t know if the same is true for 7” ones (you don’t hear much about 7” ones to be fair as there are so few people using them in comparison)

There's a spacer missing from off the back of the drive flange.

Drum Brake Drive Flanges have one and I *** think *** its the same size.

<Edit: Yeap, this is it
