Hello.

I've got a new Maniflow exhaust manifold - would you paint it or leave it? Obviously its mild steel, so its going to rust.. but will the paint protect it a bit or isn't it worth painting it?

Thanks

as yet I have not found any high temp paint that does not burn off.

but it is not a bad idea to do it. but what paint.

Even ultra-high-temp paint only seems to last a couple of weeks before it burns off.

This Ceramic paint claims to be stable upto 1000 degrees

Would need to sandblast the part before spraying it on.

OK thanks for your help... I thinking I should just leave it unpainted ...sounds like it could be more problems than its worth!?

Does wrapping a mild steel manifold prevent corrosion, or make it worse? I notice the standard manifold on my car is wrapped, but I also have a maniflow replacement to go on when the engine is rebuilt.

it hold moisture so increases corrosion. it also moves the heat down the pipe which results in a hotter exhaust under the car which can burn off paint.

Thought so. See a fair bit of corrosion under insulation in my day job!

I have 1 Paint that survived a few years on my manifold. It was a silver high temp paint, but I cant recall the name. Was something like ' K-brake' orso. OR K-line

A manifold will get to just below 'red' heat, so it would need a pretty special paint to withstand that.
You don"t really see the manifold and a manifold is unlikely to rust through.

Barbecue paint works for a while, but burns & flakes off after a bit.

Frost sell VHT flame proof, supposed to be good. 700c or over 1000c with heat treatment, on or off the car.
