I have to replace the slam panel on my clubman.

Trying to find out what was originally stamped into the welded plate on my rusty slam panel. I have all other car info - V5 - Commission number - Engine number - VIN number but can not identify what was stamped on this plate..

Can anyone advise what should be stamped here?

Thanks

The welded plate would’ve been the body number, usually starting D20S (or similar)

Sorry to bring up an old post, but does anyone have a height of the letters for the welded plate and a rough size for the plate itself? My slam panel body number was taken off to have a new front end, and has been misplaced..... I have a photo of the number and want to remake it, but trying to work out letter height before ordering stamps.

At a guess from memory, i think they were around 6mm? and the plate 70mm x 15mm?

Cheers

The Body number was on a steel plate spot welded on the right of the slam panel

I do them

They maybe correct for Mk1s, but the Clubman/GT and later marks were different - essentially the same font, reversed stamped etc as the FE plates

I have looked at a couple of places that offer stamping of body numbers, but they only do Mk1. I've see some reversed press type stamps which should do the job.

The FE plate is still in place, but i think the lettering was smaller on the slam panel plate?

For your information, here is the body number plate on my early 80s City.

I can measure it for you but I'm currently away from the car.  It's embossed, rather than stamped but the digits are not as large or raised as that of the FE number or the (lesser spotted) floor number.

That would be great if you could mate. The clubman shell is at the body shop being stripped back to bare metal so no real rush.

Where about's is the floor number? The shell has had a complete floor fitted but I don't remember seeing a number plate on the original one.

Yes sorry mine are just Mk 1

Both the FE number and floor numbers were the bigger font, which no one does to my knowledge.

The floor number plate was in the LH floor pan at the front.

I have a car in at the moment which has one in I will get a photo.

This one is from the '59 register

I think they were just Mk1 too

I definitely didn't have one in that location. Just checked an old photo of the original floor. The clubman is a '72.

Evil Ewok, the body number plate is-

120mm long

16mm wide

Digits are 6mm tall and very lightly stamped from the reverse, not embossed like the FE number is.

The F (floor) number is on the right hand side on my Mk3 cars!  It is the same size and design as the FE number.  Nothing on the blue Mk4 Mini City, I think this is because by then, they were fitting the tar/ bitumen sheets over the primed floor pans to reduce NVH.  Maybe it's under the tar?!
