Hello all,

just thought I would introduce myself to everyone. Came across this place a few days ago and have gotten hooked so thought it would be the polite thing to do.

Have been thinking about doing some sort of car project for a while now and think I have finally decided on a mini. Wanted to do something not too big, not too chavvy, and something which would get people's attention when done. Also wanted to do a project so that I have something to improve my mechanicing skills with. Have played about with bikes a little in the last few years, but nothing with cars.

Did think about Golfs and old escorts (MK1 or 2) but escorts seem rediculous money (although a MK1 with bubble arches does look so nice) and golfs are getting a little bit towards the chav side of things.

It might be a while before I get the ball rolling as I need to go through the hassle of getting a new garage built where I live so will most likely be in the first quarter of next year when things start to happen.

Already getting thoughts together on things I would like to do though. keep it on 10" wheels, wide arches (but not side skirts or full kit), basic stripped out interior probably with rear seats removed, flip or removable front end. got a few thoughts and ideas for the lights too. Not too concerned about having the most powerful engine out there as my current 4-wheel transport is a peugeot 1.5 diesel van (with about 55BHP), so wont need much for it to feel more nippy :-

Looks like most of you guys (and gals) here do some great work with your mini's and have drooled over some of them from magazine articles and other websites. Such great inspiration for doing a first time project. just hope you don't mind people possibly copying ideas etc.

well that's me for now. hope I havne't bored you all too much.

catch you later

Paul ;D

Hello and Welcome to TMF :-

Do you already have the mini you're going to work on? If so, what is it?! ;D

no actual mini yet. want to get the garage sorted out first as I have no real place to store anything yet.

just in the early stages of planning things ;D

Welcome aboard the good ship TMF!

Hope you have a good time here! The rpoject sections are full of some OUTSTANDING engineering feats (all be it swarmed by the bike engine boys :- ) (only joking lads) hope you enjoy trawling through the forum looking for inspiration etc.

good choice sticking with 10's... they rock!.. and handle the best hands down. ;D

Good luck with the planning stages, and hope you get your garage built and tooled up soon!
Look forward to yur progress,
Mike.

Was very tempted with doing a bike engined project, especially seeing the Z-cars creations at a lot of the kit car shows I go to with my old man, but they seem rather expensive and i want to try and keep some kind of control over the costs (or at least fool myself into thinking I am controlling the costs).

Will be able to satisfy my bike engined car fantasy by helping my dad with his bike engined kit car (lotus 7 style) he is planning for next year.

Looking forward to getting all sorts of useful tips from you guys. Have found the similar forum for the bike I own priceless when it comes to sorting out problems (or should that be changed to challenges instead?). Just don't laugh too much when I ask something stupid, which is bound to happen sooner or later

just me again,

have been looking through some of the project builds and think I have just about made up my mind as to which body style/engine combo I would like.

It's not original as others have already done it, but think I will be going the clubby / vauxhall 1.6 route. have been drooling over mini84s build today at work (during luchtime...honest).

seems like the best alternative engine to use with 10" wheels and also appears to be possible without costs rocketing too much.

just got to wait till the damn garage is sorted
