Hi guys, so I've recently fitted a set of the Ultimate LED rear light conversion units, and at the same time my indicators have decided they no longer wish to flash, they do still light up though. I should mention this hasn't effected the hazard lights at all... I'm not sure if these two factors are linked, as I always assumed LEDs would make indicators flash faster rather than prevent them flashing at all. Is it as simple as the fact I have the wrong ticker/relay? Or have the LED's upset the current and something needs to be added to the circuit? Sorry if this sounds a bit daft, electrics are not my strong point!

Here is a link to the kit I have fitted: https://www.ebay.co....872.m2749.l2649

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Chris

The indicator flasher (old style bimetallic type) relies on the current flowing through it heat the strip and make it flash. leds don't draw as much current so it's probably not heating up. Hazards work the other way round: the contacts are open until you flick the switch, an internal heater warms up, turns 'em on, the current can the bypass the heater so they cool down - the loop repeats...

Get yourself an electronic flasher flasher unit if you want to keep the leds.

Stupid question. I replaced my flasher and hazard relays for electronic ones a few years back, but if I changed to led bulbs would I then need to change the electronic relays for led relay ones?

Thanks for the help! Would something like this do the trick? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-ELECTRONIC-INDICATOR-FLASHER-RELAY-FOR-CLASSIC-CARS-WITH-OE-CLICKING-SOUND/181707664784?hash=item2a4e9eed90:g:UVoAAOSwH3hZ~yzG

I can't see why an electronic flasher would be fussy as long as it can handle the current, which leds reduce.

but, I have thought of another issue - if you have a centre speedo the turn signal warning light earths via the indicators on the opposite side.

I do indeed have a center speedo! If that is the route of the problem how would I go about fixing it?

I doubt it's the cause of the lack of flashing. Both sides might light regardless of indicating L or R.

Does the dash indicator still light now?

at the moment the indicators still respond to R and L, they just dont flash, and stay solid instead. The light on the dash does the same; comes on when indicating but stays solid.

that's as you'd expect with bulbs, so it may work fine with just the new flasher.
