Hi guys, looking to get a set of chrome hubcaps re-chromed as the finish is a bit knackered. Is there anywhere in the Essex area that people would recommend for a good finish and decent price?

Thanks

Chris

cheers for the help guys, I was thinking Hockney might be a bit of a stretch for me anyway as I'm up in north Essex near Cambridgeshire. Hopefully others will be able to make some recommendations.

Re-chroming is not cheap at all.

If you can buy another set in better nick it's almost always cheaper.

I had a feeling it would be pricey, the problem is that I actually have 13" Austin Healey Sprite steel wheels on my Mini, and the hubcaps for these wheels are minimum 120 quid for a new set.   :(

To properly re chrome them I recon itll be more than a new set

This, it's an expensive business because the chemicals involved are nasty, making disposal expensive.

New chrome stuff is often cheaper because it's done in some backwater location who don't care about environmental damage.

I know a few people in the restoration trade at high end businesses, and chroming is always an issue, especially when your restoring valuble and one off stuff like rirrari's and Dtypes etc...

apparently its really hard to find a plater that can get anything like original chroming quality due to the regs on chemicals these days, and no  they wont tell me who they use!

There's a very reputable place in South Yorkshire called Prestige Plating, from memory they often have a huge backlog of work due to being in such high demand.

Prestige Electro Plating
Unit 9, Station Road Industrial Estate, Valley Road, Wombwell
Barnsley
S73 0BS
Telephone: 01709 577004

Also a place in Derby that I've heard is good.
