Just noticed my mini over heating on stand still. I drove 20 minuets stopped and the gauge almost went straight to high within say 15 seconds. Any clues?

EDIT: Moved to technical

Is it actually overheating.

The electric gauges are notoriously unreliable. You need to establish whether the car really is too hot. If it really is too hot you will notice the radiator pressure cap allowing coolant at boiling point to flow from the overflow pipe.

If it is overheating it could be one of several problems.

The radiator could be blocked.

The thermostat could be stuck.

The fan-belt could be loose.

There could be 'gunge' in the block waterways.

More investigation is needed before we can really help.
