Hi all, need some help from experience Mini people.

I have a Rover 1997 MPI 1275. Ordered new cones from Mini Sport. My garage has gone to fit them and says they are wrong.

The flatter one on the left is what i have currently fitted. The newer looking taller one are the ones i ordered from Mini Sport. The garage says they are wrong, but i can't seem to find the correct ones for my car on any sites.

Am i missing something here?

Do the garage think they are wrong because they are a different shape, it so then this just because the old ones have flattened over the last 20 years.

Do the new ones have nuts in them for the cone compressor tool to thread in to?

Yep nothing wrong there, just a case the the the old ones have flattened that much compared to the new ones. Is it just a general garage thats doing it that doesn't know minis? they'll need a cone compression tool to fit them.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I thought exactly the same thing, and if you look at my Mini the front is very low. People on here had even said they thought the suspension had collapsed and advised me to buy new cones. The guy at the garage did say the new ones would bar very high if fitted and the old ones have a nut welded on the top.

The alex moulton ones that minisport sell have the thread in the hole rather than a nut on the top like the better genuine ones that minispares sell.

Its a general garage, but the guy doping the work has 3 of his own Minis.

The old ones look a slightly different roundness on top, but i can't tell if they are just flattered?

you are still using the same garage. sorry he sounds like clueless ******* to me.

if there is a thread in the metal bit you can use them on the front.

the profile is how they are new. the settle in use.

please do keep asking the questions as i would not be trusting the guy. i would also get yourself a haynes manual and read up on what he is doing so you may have more of an idea than he does.

Ok So looks like the Mini spares ones are the genuine ones, as the Mini Sport ones i have say Alex Moulton - Not genuine.

My question is should i get a set of the Mini Spares ones with the nut on top, and sell the Mini Sport ones on eBay?

And clearly doesn't know a lot about minis... I also know someone who's been selling second-hand cars for the past 12 years, doesn't make him a mechanic either.

As posted above. That's how the cones would have been when the mini rolled off the production line. Yes it will sit high with the new cones, but it will settle.

Can't see any problem fitting the minisport ones. There was a few years back minisport selling 'rear only' ones, but that was because they had a batch without the thread cut into them.

Its a catch 22 to be honest, I'm not trusting everything thats being said which is why I'm relying on the amazing help i have received on here. The issue is i just need to get the car running and back home - then i can do bits myself and find a Mini specialist. Apparently there is one in Sevenoaks (15 mins away from me).

So i need this guy to do what he needs to so that i can drive it out of the garage. Do i get a set of the Mini Spares ones?

nothing wrong with the ones you have. just slightly different. dont know how much Moulton actually had to do with it (or did someone buy the name) but Dr Moulton did design the original rubbers.
