We have this mini in our garage. Don't know the year or anything about it. I tried looking up the guides on how to decode the VIN's but the VIN we have doesnt match any of them, specifically the eight position where the number 3 is. The vin is SAXXL2S3021479942 (picture attatched)

When I try various vin decoder websites, it either tells me it can't find results or that the car is a 2002 which doesnt make sense because its not a New Mini.

On both sides there is a small Morris badge, and decals on the rear of the sides that say Mini Cooper. On the rear it says Mini 1000. (see pictures)

Can anybody with more knowledge of Minis help me identify this one? I would like to know the year and the model and such. Im completely stumped! And please dont copy and paste the really long guides on decoding vins because Ive looked at them all already.

Would recommend not posting your VIN on a public forum...

"Ringers", cars with the wrong identity. There has been alot of them about recently. Unlikely to happen with just a VIN posted online, but I was just saying it as a matter of course as I have seen people be cautious about it before.

You probably know the engine is a 998. Instead of using SAXXL2S30 use SAXXL2S3O in this case the O most likely stands for Mini E or Mini City E. The 3 still is a mystery. On mine that position is a 1 indicating that it is a round nose.
