I would look this up in my haynes manual, but it’s gone somewhere, I think it does not want to get any oilier.

My wipers work on high speed, and the washers work, but to wipe once or move slowly they refuse to work.

I have tried the 5 pin connector half way down the steering column and tried to short all the plugs, I get a connection (spark) on all of them, but the same reactions happen.

I am not sure where to look next. Is there a relay which could have blown? This problem had been intermittent for the last 10days or so, now it seems to have stuck.

There is a relay at next to the wiper motor which has 3 wires coming from it, I am not sure if that is the problem, I did think that was hazards, but its earthed on the wiper motor.

Any help is greatly appretiated.

The car was/is a 1990 check mate.

First thing to do is to check all connecitons are clean and dry And that goes for your earths too.

Have you tried cleaning up all the connections with white spirit and some wet and dry? intermittant problems usually lead to a bad earth or dirty connections.

a problem often experienced is that the park switch burns out so the wipers won't park, this is the function of the relay you refferrred to.

Cheers for that.

The park switch is burnt out, and has been for many moons.
I will try cleaning the connectors, I will wait for it to stop raining first. ;D

while we are on the subject does anyone know if a faulty park switch is an MOT failure? And what abaout non-functioning washer jets?

Well your washers need to be working for an MOT, but they generally don't care if your wipers park themselves, just so long as they clean the water off the windscreen.

But anyway get that wiper motor park-switch replaced soon, because they cause all kinds of electrical mayhem when they go wrong and pretty soon you'll suffer blown fuses and misreading gauges etc.

Well it happened on both mine and my sisters Minis anyway.

hello just a thought but if speed one wont work at all it may have burned out inside the motor!!! has happened before to others im sure!! tho lack of parking suggests park switch too!!

mite be worth checking the terminals on the third fuse down too!! both green/orange wires 1 of them supplies the wiper motor the other the heater!! tho doubtfully this if speed 2 works!!

top call looking at the park switch, the connector is quite burnt. bodged it a little and it works now.
