Five years ago, a Leaf only had 73 miles.

Unfortunately, this isn't about BMW producing Electric Classic Minis.  This is a one off, to milk press chatter from a nostalgic body shape, which, if it falls flat on its face, can be discarded without besmirching BMW's mini;  so don't hold your breath waiting for the "E Mini Se7en Championship".

Ironic that they feel the need to use the original Mini to promote a MINI that has nothing to do with it?? Bizarre.

All car companies use the heritage of their brand and past models to sell their current range of cars, why would Mini be any different?......for instance have you not seen the latest Ford Fiesta advert video below, watch the clever background shots to see many past Fiesta models and even including a Mk1 Ford Granada. (Like the MINI the current Fiesta has nothing to do with the early Fiestas).

When JLR/Tata launch the all new Land Rover soon do you really think their marketing department won't reference the past Land Rover and its heritage to increase sales around the world?

I can imagine a few people asking if they could have a classic electric mini from BMW and of course being disappointed.

Its a shame as the classic mini would be the perfect electric city car being small and nimble. Easy to drive and easy to park and easy to get through all the tight gaps unlike the so called small cars of today that are as big as the people carriers of ten years ago.

If anyone visits the New York Motor Show maybe ask to see under the bonnet as BMW don't seem to have released any photos showing the power train yet.....unless it has the BMW i3 motor shown below in the boot perhaps?
