Can anyone tell me what's involved in fitting a 22g1128 remote gearbox from an 1100/1300 to a Mini? Something to do with a sandwich plate I believe? Must be tea-time! Or has anyone  a 'box for sale in good order? Thanks in advance.

It can be a bit of an issue, the reason being a Mini uses the remote as an engine steady. In the ADO16, this was done by have two engine mounts on the front engine plate and so didn't rely on the Remote for this.

If you fit a decent steady to the Rad side of the engine, alone with the stoke one that fits over the flywheel, you should be OK.

I'm not aware of any other ways of fitting up the remote other than to use the rubber sandwich plate.

I believe the Inno. Mini's had subframes that used the ADO16 type Engine Mounts and I think that type of Remote too.

Thanks. Would it not be possible to make a solid plate to replace the rubber one? Seems all the boxes I can find are ADO16 type, unless someone has one?

Would someone be kind enough to point me in the direction of pictures of the differences, so I don't end up getting the wrong one?

For the Mini type, the 4 remote bolts straight onto the diff housing and the bolts go through the remote flange and into the face of the gearbox flange.

This is the 1100/1300 sandwich - the 8 bolts go in from the side - 4 into the remote, 4 into the box.

Gotcha, thanks. So is the issue with the remote from an 1100 not being suitable for a Mini solely the rubber? If so, could the sandwich not be separated and a steel piece made to replace the rubber? As long as you have the right remote housing for the 1100 box my mind says this should work!

I *think* the 1100/1300 set up may be slightly longer, but I’m not sure. If it the rear mount may be in the wrong place.
Getting the bolts in from the side might be difficult?

Otherwise, yes I think the sandwich could be modded to make it solid.

Thanks, I'll keep trying to find the correct Mini box and remote, but good to know there might be an option.

Back in the 60's using an 1100 gearbox and remote was fairly standard mod as they were easier to find in scrapyards than a Cooper or S one (also Elf/Hornet). We just modded the 1100 rear bracket and used the sandwich.

Can be done, but not at all strong.

+1 on this ran this set up for years back in the late sixties! also had to change

the crown wheel and pinion.

The standard FD on 1100 was 4.1:1 which we left in as a good ratio for rallying.

I had a 1972 1380 clubman estate in the late 80's early 90's, I installed an otherwise standard 1300gt engine and box, bored to 73.5mm & had a 2.9:1 final drive, made a lovely torquey high geared wolf in sheeps clothing car. It obviously had the ado16 remote. I can see what Moke Spider is saying about it not being as strong as the mini setup, but I never gave it a thought at the time and I never had any issues with it other than the side mounting bolts were a pain if using an lcb manifold as they fouled the y piece, had to knock a dent in the y piece for clearance.
Can't remember how the 1300 rear mounting attached, but I think I had to drill and tap the end of the remote to take the mini mount.

Whale oil beef hooked! Having learnt about the differences I thought I'd have a look at mine, and it turns out I have the ADO16 type anyway. No issues with the bolts going in the side as I don't have LCB exhaust (they don't fit well on mk1's) . It's all been in and out before a few times and not had any problems with engine stability. There's actually nothing wrong with my existing box and 998 engine, but building up a 1275 and want to be able to drop the whole lot in as one and keep the old setup as a spare. Are there any issues with fitting the transfer case from the 1275 A+ to a remote box?
