Hi,

My son and I have just got a mini to do up and play with. I found it under a bush in a local farm, after tracking down the farmer and chating to him about the mini (It was his sons who died in moterbike accident some 20 years ago), I asked if he woulld sell it to me as a project for my son and I to do up for his first car. After a few fals starts and a couple of visits he agreed to sell it to us. I now have the mini in my workshop and cleaned out the majority of the undergrowth from the decades of neglect, this is where I've hit the first problem. As it had been all but forgotten about the log book has been lost. Ive tried to aply for a new V5 but you need the Vin number, and as you can guess it's pretty rotten and the vin plate is also missing. we have the Reg plate and the engine (number). Does anyone know how I can, findout how to find a vin number, or where to look on the DVLA website to get any relevant information to help register the car into my sones name.

According to the registration on it it has a V plate (1979) on it.

As You have the reg, do a £1.99 mycarcheck, pretty sure that gives you the VIN

Hi even though you haven't got the V5 and also sounds like the VIN plate isn't there the number maybe stamped/rolled into the bodyshell in the bonnet gutter below the windscreen usually offset slightly to the drivers side.
