Hello all,
I took in my mother's mini recently to do some restoration work for her, (lots of welding), she's had it a few years.
I remember from looking at its paperwork & receipts in the past that it's had an interesting life, have several invoices from visiting JCG Ferring a few times back in the day & one of which was for a tune up of its twin carbs which sadly had already been removed for a HIF44 by the time it arrived in our family.
When taking the engine out I noticed remnants of light blue paint on the cylinder head & wondered whether it was a JCG converted car, although has no cooper certificate. Cleaning the head further I noticed Janspeed stamping on the head.

Anybody able to make any sense from those stampings on the attached picture? I'll take a look at the paperwork this week when I visit. Here is a picture of the head stamping and blue paint remnants.

Many thanks.

Makes perfect sense to me. What don't you understand?

Whistler, I guess you're right. Wondering if those stampings on the head mean to what level the head was modified to & whether any of the early JCG conversions ever had the head stamped as a janspeed or were always exclusively stamped cooper.
Although does sound as if it was just a janspeed modification.
Thanks.

I can't see the image here but I have seen it elsewhere. I am curious to know what the markings mean. The two examples I have seen are slightly different: 25.0 or 25.5, 0.024 or 0.018. I am due to have one of my cars serviced in June by the ex Cooper's Workshop Foreman. I will ask him then. He is getting used to my questions.

John Cooper Garages were marketing the 1000cc conversion right up to their 1997 brochure.

There is a distinction between a retro conversion and Cooper's own 30th Anniversary (1989) edition with its unique decals. The latter had plates. None of the illustrations of the retro-fit kits show a plate or certificate in the way they show for the 1275 kits. I don't know if there was any technical difference between the retro-fit kits and the anniversary edition.

Janspeed only ever did heads for the carb kits. MiniSport did them for the injection models. Even then Janspeed couldn't keep up so other firms took on some of the work including MiniSport and MiniSpeed so perhaps that's why they decided to add their name to the markings.

I hadn't realised these markings are hidden under the rocker cover so I don't know if there are any on my 1275. "Cooper" and a 4-digit number are stamped next to the themostat housing.

We did hundreds of heads for JCG and we were not allowed to mark them with our branding, I would assume others had the same instruction
