I have carefully flatted my 2k direct paint with p1500 where necessary followed by Mirka abralon p2000, then p4000, then a final pass with p6000 trizact, I am however undecided what to follow it up with as I need to polish the paint with very little cut, was thinking of Scholl Concepts s40 with a soft pad.
Anyone have any advice regards this as I dont want to risk a heavy cut or hard pad, as that was where I went wrong on my last project and just couldnt polish it properly without cutting through, ended up repainting quite a few areas. Hence my choice of discs this time.

Here is a pic of finish achieved, the gloss is almost there just with some marring as can be seen on the side view

For polishing all I use it Turtle Wax and a lint free cloth.

I'd imagine the pros will know more though

3M ultrafina anti hologram. With the correct polishing head.

I use farcela g10 with there soft black pad, it got rid of swirl marks on my daily car and the new paint on the mini came up like glass. I think they do a g12 as well which is even finer and then a good wax on top after.

You shouldn't cut through with a soft pad, normal pressure and standard polish...

 

Given you've already hit it with 6000 you will only need to give it a light polish followed by a nice wax and buff...

 

Just do a test panel...

 

The only areas you should really have to worry about cutting through is on sharp edges...

 

It's very hard to damage paintwork if you're using a DA polisher.

This is after a Meguiars ultimate compound, auto finesse tripple, AF ultra glaze and AF radiance liquid wax all applied with a DA.

didn't take too long to do either

3m products seem to be a favourite with most, 

after p6000 trizact machine polish with 3m fast cut plus green coloured top (with a bit of water)  this step looks like you have already done 

 

then use the 3m extra fine yellow colour top (from the flatting process you have used you should be seeing a glass like finish by this point)

 

then only on my own cars id use 3m ultrafina purple colour top for the last hardly noticeable swirls

 

I only use a soft mop heads, and new ones for each different compound. nice clean cloths because after the ultrafina you will see marks if the cloths are not clean when removing it

 

I haven't ever had a problem with using this method it works very well for me every damn day of the week

 

I don't like using wax if the paint job is pretty new say with a few weeks basically because after the process of polishing you won't need it, it will be like glass

and unless you painted it in a booth and baked it for the correct time the paint and lacquer is still drying even tho its cured and feels hard to touch so by putting the wax over the top your actually slowing the process so I try and avoid it. only on my own cars tho

Soft pad won't do anything - they're usually for applying wax. You need a light cut pad and a medium compound.

how can you use one for applying wax???? its on a machine polisher

Thanks for all advice, I am pretty sure I will try some Scholl Concepts s20 Black with an orange pad, then maybe s30 to finish.

Will post some results on my build thread when finished
