any one know of a OE part number for one of the above, all the part numbers i find do not state that they are a switch or just a sensor i am thinking GM does one so can check later but if any one know of one....

Nick,
I've just looked though around 100 of them, the only imperial threads I could find were 1/8" and 3/8" Gas threads, the others were Metric. It appears that 1/8" NPT for these is 'odd-ball'.
Are you locked in to 1/8" NPT?
I'd suggest if a change is possible to consider Metric and there's a huge range available.

have drill and Tap so anything is possible, that is what was in the part.

Next issue is finding one one with a 100 differential !!
There are a few, but I think this one fits your ticket and has a second higher temp, switch

Most I found were M22 which is good as that's what's in my rad!
You can get surface mount ones as well if you don't want/don't have a tapped hole.
eBay is your friend though, bucket loads on there of all the flavours.

sure there are loads on Ebay but this is the type of think I like to have in hand, but I am thinking of turning the housing I have into a temp switch and drain plug housing.

Some rad thermostats are M14 like the ones that fit in the Fletcher rad. Mahle do a range (TSW) that have 5 degree increments so you can probably find one that suits.

well this has been a bit of a fuss.
this lot arrived on thursday
then today i had to get
but thats two taps i hear you say. yep the first one was undersize by about 0.25mm and the Sump plug is well the drain plug will be the same thread as the sensor was a little to far back in the housing
will be fine as a drain
just need to drill and tap a new hole as fit
oh VW sump plug

Nice work Nick. I wouldn't worry too much about the switch being recessed in a bit, the fitting, being all aluminum will quickly follow the coolant temp with little lag.

true, but still going to add another hole on the otherside for the sensor. and use the current as a drain as it will be the lowest point in the cooling system. also i get to use the expensive tap for a second time.
