I can only assume that these are all in place and ok as nothing fell out and i didnt remove or replace them... I did see the little spring poking out the hole when i removed the cover but nothing that i know of got moved or changed...

"Detent spring" - it does seem the most likely cause. I cant see how you'd lose the ball bearing if the spring didn't come out, but it might have created space for some debris to get wedged in.

A common cause for the shifter to become stiff across the Neutral Gate is one of the bushes in Reverse Gear walking out, in doing so, it doesn't allow Reverse to fully go back in to Neutral and so maintains a constant side pressure on it.
If you did pop off the side covers to replace the seals and then get them flush back on again, tends to tell me that's been reassembled OK. There's a steel sleeve in there too, that the detent ball and spring sit inside, if that sleeve ended up with a flared end, it could also make it stiff across the Neutral Gate, however, if this did occur, you would be unable to refit it back in the gearbox. It's not easy to damage that sleeve as they are hard.
I feel that it's the bush as I mentioned ^ and that it occurred at this time was a coincidence, however, I'd suggest disconnecting the shifter at the coupling (drive out a roll pin) and feeling that the shift has full unhindered movement.
If it is the reverse bush, I wouldn't leave it as it chews the peg off the reverse shift lever, resulting initially in it jumping out of reverse and then eventually, you just won't be able to select reverse at all.

you cant really put them in too far as there is a shoulder here is a correctly fitted one.
The C clip on that splined shaft might be missing or damaged and thus the pot joint keeps on moving outwards

I just finished installing a new pot joint on my mini yesterday and it should definitely seat into the differential further than that. If you are having trouble getting it to re-seat far enough that the circlip holds it in place you can try the trick that the haynes manual suggests. They suggest placing a couple of large pipe clamps around the housing of the pot joint and then use a long flat bar, place it up against the head of the pipe clamp head and give it a wack with a hammer. I didn't have to end up doing this, I was able to push it in far enough by hand.

Hi,
If it's the bush inside the reverse gear then its engine out time.
Did you jack it up by the sump at anytime? You may have bent one of the remote rods going to the gear stick.
Also check the roll pin for the remote isn't sticking out and catching the casing.

What’s involved in repairing this bush?? I’m guessing it’s not a 5 minute job
As I suggested ^^ check the shifter first, however, if it is Reverse Gear itself, it is a bigger job, but one you can certainly do yourself.
It will involve pulling the engine out and splitting the Gearbox off, then remove the speedo end housing off the gearbox, take out the Main Shaft Bearing retainer (3 or 4 bolts), push the layshaft out, and remove the layshaft itself (that will lift out), then pressout the reverse layshaft (these all come out with your fingers), then lift out reverse gear.
Find a Reverse Gear with a one piece bush - they stay put.
