It lets the fumes out but traps the liquid.

this is another race cars do it so it must be good thing. venting direct to air makes for a smelly car and a messy engine bay. this is not permitted on race cars and they have to have catch tanks with a specified volume (read rules and regs) so that they can contain any oil displaced by the engine so there is nothing spilled on the track.
pointless on a road car you may as well take advantage of the lower engine pressure created by original system that also burn of the vapour in the engine.
