Hi

Don't get too exited or angry,  its not going into my Mini !.

I just wanted to share my excitement , and if I'm being honest  "show off"  a bit,  at the imminent conversion project  of my almost mint  1982 VW T25 Devon Moonraker 1.9 Diesel camper van to "scooby dooby doo" power in the shape of a Subaru 2.0 lr. petrol  Impreza/Legacy flat 4 boxer engine.

5 yrs ago I transplanted the faithful , but underpowered original  1.6  vw diesel engine with a ...(a-hem)....  modern..... Skoda Felecia 1.9 N/A diesel.

It transformed the performance from a meagre  40 bhp pulling a 2.5 tonne camper van - you can imagine the performance up hill -  to a muscular 58/60 BHP.

I was introduced to the fast n furious  world of (w) mild acceleration....  and an off the line performance of a.... not perhaps a scalded cat ...but in a slight  hurry fat moggy .

Accompanied with the aerodynamics of a breeze block and in the colours of poo brown lower half (the van not me)  over Ivory cream  top half, and nice flowery curtains -   I am the local Mr 1970"s but its a complete contrast to the Mini.

Circumstances allow me to get an engine and the conversion bell housing kit,  so I will be doing the transplant  myself with help from a friend

It a fairly well trod route but theres so much technical skill on this forum -  I might take the liberty of seeking advice as the conversion progresses and an aspect of the install needs an engineers mind ot=r fresh pair of eyes  to solve a problem

Wish me luck

Matt

Well that sounds like far more fun than any modern rubbish.  You can't beat high performance where it's least expected.

If you you tube Burt Munroe theres a 1970's documentary about him that preceeded and inspired the Fastest indian film starring anthony hopkins

watch parts 1,2 on you tube....

He at one point says - "anyone can buy a fast bike - and ride it fast - that doesn't interest me....  - thats only  1% of the fun - the real thing is making something slow - go faster  faster is a product of hard workk and application  of my mind  - thats what interests me"

He developed an indian scout bike he spent all his money on 1n 1920  to a record breaker... not unlike the motivation of many mini owners

I watched the movie about him he actually build a lot of the parts for his motorcycle himself, he design a custom head for the engine, conrods and pistons to say a few.
