If the car is on the ground, you can put it in 3rd or 4th gear and push the car around.

Or, you can pull the plugs out and turn it from the alternator nut (as long as your fan belt is tight enough).

best way is to have a square piece of wood panel with 4 wheel lug holes and centre cap hole

jack up front remove one wheel fit piece of wood panel with the  holes in it

lower to ground

remove 1 spark plug

engage 4th gear

rotate the wheel with Tyre still on with

engine will rotate

Basically, you're using the diff backwards. Instead of the engine turning the wheels, the wheels turn the engine.  Turning a wheel will turn the diff at the average rate of both wheels: The one on the floor does 0 turns, so 1 turn of the jacked up wheel (it can stay attached) gives half a turn of the diff. Multiply in the final drive ratio (around 3 to 1) and you'll get sixish turns of the raised wheel to one of the engine.

As it's a, flat cornering, Mini, jacking it up by cross member under the front seats (with a spreader board) will avoid both front wheels coming off the ground - or you could put a chock under one wheel and lower the car back on to it.

Did no one spot my deliberate mistake?  :whistling:

3 turns of engine to one of diff means 1 turn of the wheel gives 1 1/ turns of the engine - in 4th gear.
