Evening.
So,while I'm working on my carb I've got the needle out and found it is a AEM needle which I believe was standard on the 1275 a+ engine with hif38 carb.
The mini has had a Piper cross cone filter, minisport alloy heated inlet and a maniflow manifold and exhaust fitted with single back box,I appreciate all engines are different but what would be a good starting point for a needle.
Thanks again folks.

Sooooo.....I've tried the AEM again and still have a flat spot,so now I've put an AAL in and it's a lot better.
However,I still have a bit of 'roughness' around 3000rpm if I put my foot down,I noticed the rev counter was jumping about a bit and it actually felt like it was misfiring and losing power.
So,what can I try next,a timing check and a propper mixture set up on the carb?
Thanks again folks....

Take it to a rolling road and they will set it up properly.

You need a rolling road session other wise you're just guessing.

Seems that rolling roads are few and far between up here in little old Cumbria, let alone any that would have a knowledge of the Mini....

So,due to the lack of close rolling roads up here in Cumbria I have tweaked the mixture a little myself.
The plugs are a nice beige colour and the flat spot seems to have gone after the AAL needle and making the mixture a little richer.
Just seems like the gearbox is misbehaving now...
The joys..

Sounds like you have got the mixture a lot better

I did a red/black 66 Cooper from Ulverston not that long ago...its a really tidy car...

was running badly with very rich needles and retracted nose plugs

doing a 3 syncro box for the same car now (going back to original)

He trailers it down to me, it had just over 60hp on the dyno (overbored, modified head and a mild cam)

What size of spike are you reading from the rev counter?

500 rpm is electrical issues

Minute changes is fuelling.

I'd strongly suggest taking the car to an MOT station to set the emissions to 3.0% CO. Did you fill the dashpot on the carb with oil? I use 20/50 mineral engine oil

One of the wires on the coil was very loose,so that might have had something to do with it?
Yeah, the car is going to a garage soon for some bits and bobs,so that will be looked at.
And yeah 20/50 in the dashpot.
