Resprayed Racing Green
White roof
12x4.5 Minilight Alloys
Cooper seats
Cooper steering wheel
Walnut dash
I guess these are all mods which need to be declared?
There are other things which we will change:
JC bonnet stripes - remove
Spot lamps - remove
Chrome wheel arches - will go for std mini arches or group 2s
Racing Mirrors - will change for black plastic or tex chrome
Over riders, chrome no plate surrounds, door handle cups, all gotta go
Cooper and chrome GB badges and stickers will also go. Remove and Probably replace with mini winged badges.
The car has obviously been personalised over its 30!years but do they really count as mods? For example insurance co wouldn't accept the stripe decals that were on the swift, as it came,
We are telling him that any mods have to be declared but he has mates with similar mods but are assuming car is standard even though spot lamps fitted etc.
We have got quote from Adrian flux with mods declared which is same as his first years insurance so doable,

If in doubt declare. You will get people say don't do this don't do that BUT and its a big BUT, its not their insurance when it all goes wrong. Its all done on an individual basis. Don't tempt fate.
When i upgraded the suspension and brakes on my 998 clubby (Cooper S discs and callipers plus Hi Lo's, instead of drum brakes all round) i declared that but they were not interested. However i would stake my house on this that if i had a prang and had not declared the conversion they would not have paid out.

I had a load of grief with a K+N air filter a few years ago. The crash wasn't my fault but it caused no end of problems. It was fitted after the crash, but I had to prove that and pay an additional premium for the modification.

Although if you go with Adrian flux, it'll count for f-all as they'll say its not your car if you claim...

Money supermarket or whatever comparison site i use does allows you to put in modifications, and in doing so Admiral came out very reasonable with an additional saving if we go multi-car.

I have found, especially with the classic specialists, that sensible mods make very little difference to them. With the mainstream guys it's differs from company to company dependent on their view of risk, some aren't fussed about anything other than performance mods, others hammer you for everything.

The car came with chrome over arches, we took them off and the standard mini special type arches were knackered so we put on some group 2s which were lying around in the garage.
Going back to insurance company I added a few things like spot lamps, non standard stereo, pin stripes and also the wheel arches and it shot up by £300. Turns out this was just the arches increasing premium.
So the plan is to put on some standard arches ie the same type it would have had from new but I do wonder how they view this.

be careful when filling out details on the comparison sites, make a mistake you will end up having to go through all the details again with the company that quoted you,and they might not insure you afterwards. ie Adrian Flux
