Hi, anyone had issues with starter motors not engaging when your engine is hot. Tried a couple of starter motors. First one solenoid would click but would not turn. Second one, no solenoid click at all. Only happens now I've put a bulk head in and engine bay is much hotter. Could this be 'heat soak'. One starter was a recon, the other new but not genuine? Any thoughts

Hi,
Bad engine earth or you are cooking the motors. FWD ford escorts used to suffer with toasting the starter motor as the downpipe wrapped round by the starter but that took a good few years to take effect.
Have you tested them on the floor after remicrem to see what happens?
Cheers

Cheers Mate. Sometimes its the obvious that is the simplest fix. I have 2 earth straps and both I failed to clean off all the paint from the contact point properly. A free fix in the end. Thanks for your help

Hi,
Cool, can't beat an easy fix. I had the same problem with a V8 land rover, the previous numpty had attached the earth strap to the downpipe stud!
Cheers
