Hello,

I’m installing a stage 2 on my 1275 cooper (with 1.5 rocker and electronic distributor).

Basically I don’t need any more depression so I’m thinking  to replace the original (ugly) air filter box with another type of filter.

I see on internet is some K&N cones or ITG foam to be installed directly on the carburetor BUT this kind of installation are giving hot air to the engine. Which is less better than fresh air.

I was thinking of buying some inlet horn (not sure about the traduction) to be connected to a hose (Ø50) going to the front grille with a k&n filter at the end.

The inlet of the original air filter box is something like 20x60mm so Ø50 is bigger and more direct.

I think I can reduce the noise with this system also.

What are yout thoughts for that kind of system, did you already saw it mounted ?

pointless. fit a KN filter to the existing housing and make a few holes in it as per Calvers recommendations.

The original filer box works as good as any, particularity for a road car, you could put a K&N element in it. The paper filters are as good as long as they're new.

The whole front end of a Mini is a massive airbox (that'll be less restricting than ducting or horn) so you don't really have to worry about air temperature when you're moving at any sort of speed.

...depending on the type of filter case you may get a small benefit from removing the bimetallic flap .
