I'm trying to get the air/fuel mix setup on my engine enough that I can get it to a proper garage for a new needle and a general tune-up.

In the middle of messing around I left the fuel pump running for maybe 10 mins or so with the engine off.  It's since gone from making a very loud clicking noise to a very quiet clicking noise.  The engine won't start, but I don't know if this is fuel not being pumped or because my setup is all wrong.  I could check I suppose, but won't be near the car for a few days.

Anyway, does anyone with more experience of electronic pumps know if this sounds like it's failed?  And what happens to the fuel if it's pumped but not used, there's no return to the tank, does it just not move any fuel if the pressure in the line is already high enough?

I won't have time to look at the car for a few days, so if it is the pump I can have a new one ready to go in, rather than checking it at the weekend then having to wait until the week after to replace it.

which pump?

generally they click when needed to maintain the pump pressure so they do shut up. or reduce frequency or just sound less.

see what happens when you get back to the car and turn the pump on. Oh I would check the plugs before starting.

Hi,

Check for a filter in the fittings on the pump some Facet pumps have them.

Cheers  :proud:

Oh right, maybe that's what's happened then.  I've never heard it go off before, but then you wouldn't would you, especially not with a noisy exhaust and no sound deadening.

There's a filter just before the carb, I'll check there, good thinking.

there is also a filter in/before the actual pump part. depending on the actual pump.

I found a mini spares FUEL PUMP FACET FAST ROAD SOLID STATE PUMP on my mini I just bought, it’s in the engine bay located where the water washer bottle should be, it seems to make a faint squealing when engine off even hours after , is this a problem ? Also sorry if this seems daft because it has this is the choke needed ?

it is in the wrong place it should be in the back of the car in the boot or on the subframe. the latter is better.

yes you should still have the choke connected. pump does not matter.

Hi,

There's 2 kinds of pump, one that pushes fuel and one that pulls fuel.

The one that pushes is usually used in cars and needs to be fitted near the tank as it's biased push the fuel rather than suck it.

Cheers  :proud:
