I'm going to be getting a nice new house with a nice big garage in the next month or two, this means I can have a crack at doing an engine re-build...

I've bought the minifilms dvd and done a bit of my own looking around...which leads me to this question...

Would I be better off getting an old 1275 lump and going through the processes in the dvd or buying a kit like this :

http://www.morspeed....-kit-1275cc.htm (the 1380 sport one)

and then just putting it together (obviously with a head and g'box)

If I went for the kit what else would I need (other than ancilliaries).

Cheers in advance for any help....

FG.

Ahh...I just noticed those prices are exchange....what would I be looking at for getting the same work done in a 'local' machine shop???

best to have a spare engine for bolts and odd things you'l need when putting a kit together
i built my 1380 from a short engine i bought and an old overbored metro engine i got off ebay even though i had my gearbox done buy guessworks and head by morspeed it was quite a challenge for my first engine still rekon i spent the best part of a grand on it makes me think i could have gone for a 16v of some kind for not much more lol

I'd get a engine for as near to free as possible and rebuild it all. This way you'll learn the most and it won't matter if you make a mistake.
