You don't...you can go in from each end on a lathe or mill....but don't take the bridge out or there will be no venturi, just scrap.

I have some Longman Su's and they bored the bodies out to the max but left the bridge taking a HS4 to 1 3/4" ish

You also find going too big looses torque lower down,

but if you are what [wide open throttle] circuit racing then that loss matters little as the working revs will above 5k

how do you run a reamer through a carb with a bridge in it?

Made a hole in the side through which its replacement was inserted.

The first time that I saw it, and it was explained to me as a teenager in 1957, was on a Morris Minor owned by Mr. Scruby who lived near Raglan.  I think he was an engineer, because he had also managed to fit it with the disc brakes from a TR3

Interesting that Longman bored carbs;  in 1967 I bored an 1 1/2"  out to 1 5/8",  because read very carefully, the Mini se7en regs  allowed the carb to be modified, and I did another for our good friend, the late Len Brammer, who then went to Longman as one of his first customers.

They're variable choke carbs so in theory could be made to work. The problem is 998cc's would never move enough air to raise the pistons even half way so your fuel metering would be limited to a fraction of the needle length.
