Hey,

I've been thinking about selling my min for ages and I just can't bear to do it, so I'm gona do him up. Only trouble is I don't have a clue.

I know I want a 1.6 Honda engine, I've found out they are about £600, or so I'm told, but where do I get one of those from? I've had a nose on Ebday and 16vminishop, but nothing.

Also I'm guessing it's not as simple as removing one engine and putting the other one straight in...if only. But can anyone give me an idea of the other work that will be needed, other than the lengthening of the front end. Just like gearbox and stuff?? lol really....clueless. But you gota give it a go to know haven't you!

Thanks from a mini beginner!:proud:

Hello and welcome! :proud: Glad you've decided not to sell!

Check out some of the threads on here that people have started when doing conversions :w00t:

I don't kow bugger all about fitting a V-TEC into a Mini. But Iwould think Ebay, and local scrappy's would be the place to look for them. Also do a search on Google for any Honda specific breakers.

Not too sure on the 1.6, but I assume it's the same physical size as a 1.8 or 2.0

If it where me I'd probably go for as large displcement engine as you can. It will make more power easier. I mean a Honda S2000 is good for 237bhp straight out of the factory. Plus I think it's the B20 motor when turbocharged should be fine with 400bhp.

Although 400bhp in a Mini may be a little wild :proud:

If you're on a budget I guess other engines should also be considered. I'm pretty sure I've heard of Rover and Vauxhall DOHC units being used before. But I guess any DOHC motor of the correct size should be possible.

i assume he is talking about just the engine for 600 pound , best bet is to get a complete car , and use an extended front end . it will save you time and money in the long run.

but it will fit under a std round nose.

Hey,
Thank-you to everyone for all the comments!
Yeah it was just the engine for 600. Conversion prices were loads!
I've had a look on 16vmini, they have a typeR engine but 1600 is a bit too much for me and the other engines aren't Honda, but will keep looking.
I will have a look at the scrappy, I hadn't even thort of that. It's just because I don't really know what I'm looking at could be a prob, sure I can get someone to come down with me sumtime.
And actually yeah, I have a Honda Civic 1.3, can get them for bout 800 for whole car so yeah prob better to look around for a whole car. Didn't think of that either!! :w00t: Thank-you!:w00t:

I really do think I'd kill myself with a 1.8 or 2.0, it has been hit and miss a few times with the 1litre!! But I might have a think about it, I've never heard of anyone having more than a 1.6 in a mini......???

Thanks for all the help, I shall let you know how it goes.

For the common VTEC conversions you have the B16 (1.6) and B18 (1.8) engines. The only 2.0 VTEC conversion i have seen was the done by Watsons on the gold clubman. That engine is the K20 out of the EP3 Civic Type R's but that was a custom job with lots of mods.

A 1.6 Type R which would be a EK9, £900 i very much doubt that! They're like rocking horse poo!

Oh and you dont get 30hp extra just because its jap spec the EK9 motors are a B16B which have 185bhp same engine as the DC2 Integra Type R just not stroked to a 1.8.

£900?? I'm sure those cars are worth like £7000ish, because I am saving up for one of those, wanted one for years, had to settle for a 95 civic. But now doing mini up typre r has been put off a bit longer....like never!lol
The engine's alone sell for 1000-2000, tell him he's a crazy man. Unless he's just ******* it.
