Hey everyone,

Here's my little Metro, registered 24th August 1991, and a poverty spec car with rare hubcaps and metal rear bumper!

It's finished in White Diamond and is really fun to drive.

I'm gonna leave a post with most things I do with the car, and any tasteful mods I do.

As much as it isn't a Mini, it's very related and I hope to add a Mini to the garage in the future when I have the money (I'm a student) :-)

Anyway, here he is...

As of August 2018, and 15 months of ownership, he's had a new wheel bearing and thermostat fitted by a local garage. I hope to start doing work myself and I will document it here, and you can all criticise my lack of knowledge while I fumble my way into messing around with old British cars!

I had a 1.1L in 1992, ran it up too over 150000 miles, it never missed a beat and was faultless.

And such a sweet smooth car to drive. It was a revelation when it came out.

That is one good looking car, and so very clean (rust free)! Best part ,  the oh so simple steel wheels.

Lovely car and way cooler than the 107/Aygo/Up's that most students go for!

Just got some pictures of the Metro Owners' Club stand and some other BL tat (along with some Minis) at Gaydon for the BMC/Leyland day on 1st July...

The only sorrow is the small matter of a stuck thermostat, some steam, and a puddle on the M40 about 3 hours from home!

Anyway...

Love your metro! I no longer have a mini (funds!) but own a maestro 1.3 with metal bumpers. I found that to work on your own car all you need is a half decent spanner and a socket set and the willingness to take things apart (and maybe the advice of a good mechanic friend if you get stuck!). Most local motor factors are happy people that like to find parts and problem solve, especially the older ones, and there's the forums! Lots of friendly people here and on other sites. I once fit a head gasket to a 6n polo in my university campus car park without issue. Research first and you'll be fine. Good luck with your metro.

Thanks mate!

If you're interested, I recently set up a YouTube channel, which is going pretty well, where I talk about the development and history of certain cars while looking around them. For example, I've recently done a Wolseley Landcrab and a 1960 Morris Mini-Minor!

Anyway, here's the first video I ever did, a look at my little Metro.

Hope you enjoy!

Great to see all those cars from the BMC/Leyland day.  It makes me nostalgic for the Montego I had around 1995.  A lot of people didn't like them but I found it to be reliable and fun to drive.  If I had it longer I would have uprated the suspension to sort out the ridiculous amounts of body roll it had but that was the only criticism I had of it.
