Warm the cover before you put the first coat of paint on and be prepared to use the hot air gun on areas that don't initially crackle

It’s straight forward to get a crackle effect. Apply a base coat of oil based paint and allow to dry, apply a layer of pva glue (thick layer for big cracks, thin watery layer for small cracks) allow glue to go tacky to the touch (not completely dry) then add your layer of top coat and watch the cracks appear. You can experiment with different colours of base and top coats. When it’s dry add a coat of clear lacquer.

You get that without trying if you use cellulose paint on top of synthetic  ;D .

Depends on the style of cover you want. As said can be done yourself. I would recommend VHT wrinkle paint, I've got great result's from it.

Yep, VHT Wrinkle Plus. There is a guide here: http://build-threads...-texture-paint/ or you can also ask your local powdercoaters if they can offer a crackle finish
