My car's a 1998 JDM Cooper, today I had the dash out to swap the speedo from a kph version to a mph unit, so steering column loosened top and bottom, column cowl removed, radio out, dash out and instruments removed. I put it all back together and found this in the driver's footwell but have no idea where it came from or whether it's important! It's a foam ring approx 1" diameter and is rounded on one side (underneath in the photo). Does anyone know where it came from?

Stu.

Thanks for the reply.
I don't "think" it's that part because I didn't actually remove the column from the rack. I'd removed the bolt, but with the upper column mount bolt removed as well there was enough flex to get the dash out without actually removing the column.

25mm OD (across the square edge, other side is rounded)
17-18mm ID (slight taper)
4mm thick

I'm totally baffled!
