Hi all this is my first ever post here hope there is someone with a bit of advise!!!
I have a 1998 mpi that has just been fully rebuilt by myself drove for the first time today after a event full week of mot tests. As a family we have owned the car for 20 years and have had minis last 15 years and never had issuses bleeding coolant system before!!!

The car is having a few teething problems I cant get any heat from the heater and have a slight leak from one connection I am concerned it is boiling the coolant aswell as is bubbling in the header tank not sure i have a good flow and is pressurzing the system???

The engine has had a full rebuild by myself new hoses water pump thermostat heater matrix and connections to matrix that have had rtv sealant put on to try help them seal?

I am getting to the point i have exhausted all my ideas flushing bleeding etc....

The fan kicks in and doesnt appear to be over heating from the temp gauge and have have checked the thermostat is working!!!

Hope i have explained myself properly any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Ben

sounds like you have an air lock in the heater side of the system i would be looking at that. and look to bleed it separately.

Hi,

Is the hose after the heater valve getting hot?

Would be worth replacing the rad cap if you haven't already.

Cheers  :proud:

Always squeeze the big pipe in front of the rocker cover as you fill it up. Squeezing it pushed the air into the expansion tank. Make sure the heater vlave is open too.

Never had a problem with this technique (its the one form the Haynes Manual)

Thanks for all the response from everyone i have tried squeezing all the pipes as i fill up the header tank that is the way i have done it for years and never had these problems?

I have ordered a new cap last night after reading some other topics similar to mine!!!

I have tried bleeding the the matrix separately return pipe off and running the car and i get good flow reconnected and topped up header tank!!

Have also run a hose pipe all different ways to make sure i dont have any blockage any where?

Starting to think i have more serious problems from the car and engine rebuild like a crack in the cylinder head or problem with one of the new components fitted water pump thermostat???

Will keep trying will get there in the end if anyone has any more ideas i am all ears.

Thanks for the flow diagram very helpful!!!

Is the thermostat located in the top of the sandwich plate, rather than underneath it?
