Hi all,

New to the mini scene. I do apologise if this is in wrong section.

I'm looking at buying a Mini and would like some feedback on one I am considering buying.

I’ve been to look at what started out as a standard mini Mayfair 998cc mk3. The car has undergone a full restoration from the ground up. You name it it’s been done. Not one spot of rust/corrosion on it, lead lined. It now has a fully rebuilt 1310 engine with a few added extras i.e omega forged pistons, race roller rockers etc to give it that extra va va voom lol. Front disc conversion, full maniflow exshaust system, custom dash, roll cage etc. You get the idea. The asking price is £10k. Is this the right sort of money for something like this as I have seen a lot of what I suppose you’d call standard minis that have so called been restored for around the £3k-£5k mark.
I would really appreciate the honesty and feedback.

Thanks guys

Impossible to say. For 10k for a 1989 which won’t be a mk3 and would have had discs as standard I would say it’s very expensive. To do it yourself however would cost a lot.
What I would say is that if you don’t know the pitfalls of classic minis look at afew first and do your research. It’s so so easy to make them look really nice with some fibre and filler...

You could buy a very nice Mk.1 850 for £10k, so a 1989 will not be worth that sort of money.

A 'mint' 1989 Mini 30 can be bought for around £8k, so a non-original Mayfair will be worth less than that. High money cars are, generally, very original.

Maybe £6k would be reasonable for this one, but without seeing and inspecting it, it is hard to value it accurately.

1989 should already have had 8.4 inch disc set up unless they've converted it to 7.5 allowing them to run 10s?

Imo the price maybe close to what he's paid in labour and money on it but as others have said, I'd probably invest in something different. A sports 500 can be had for less. Throw some money into it and you'll have something that will appreciate quicker. Or on the other end of the scale. An original mk1...
