hi, this is miff, i own a 1971 mini clubman with a vauxhall redtop engine fitted, but i have a bit of a dilemma, it has twin 45 dcoe webers fitted to it and they are just to unreliable, so i plan to fit a set of yamaha r1 carbs on it, the trouble is there is nobody out there who is prepared to tell me the jet sizes to use, like it is some big secret, so if there is somebody out there who has done this conversion and would like to swap info with me it would be greatly appreciated, regards MIFF.

Wouldnt it be easier, more reliable, and more economical to put fuel injection on it????
I would suggest looking at www.16vminiclub.com

yeah economical, i mean in comparison with the twin webers or any other carbs you stick on it,
just because its a big engine doesnt mean you cant get the most out of it,
or at best use the least amount of fuel to do it.
I guess it all depends on have much tuning your doing on it.
But im sure there are some bolt on fuel injection systems for the Red top (aftermarket, not just standard).

I'm sure there are some manifolds out there for this conversion, as ed4ran says try 16vminiclub first, there are people on there that have done it before.

I seem to remember that hyabusa ones or maybe zx12 ones are a pretty close fit as standard but couldn't swear on it......

I'd have a look on Piston Heads forum. They have a fair few kit car boys on there and I would of thought someone on there must of done this to their own kit car, or at least point you in the right direction.

Sorry, I don't know the answer myself.

Do R1's use carbs???

I thought bikes where EFI. I know some of the V8 boys use motorcylce throttle body's on custom manifolds. Like this:

R1's are injection now, but only a few years back they were carbs...

It's quite odd, Kawasaki built a successful bikw with 'digital' (pulsed) fuel injection in the late 70's / early 80's, and didn't bother again for a while, and cars started running injection properly in the early 90's, now bikes are catching up again...

GSXR carbs are good too!

i already have the carbs as i also own a 1999 r1 with a few spare parts, and i do not want to go down the road of fuel injection as the electrical system gets a little bit complex, and as i already know how to balance carbs up on a bike i thought it would be easy to ask for a starting point if anybody had actually done this conversion already, cheers MIFF.
