As it is just after 9.15, I don't recon you'll get it done by lunch time.

+1.
Don't spoil a true iconic classic car. For the cost and effort you can do a lot of restoration on a classic car and buy a Micra or similar small car for the road

Its not an easy swap, none of the 16v conversions are maybe with the exception of the bike engines. (induction, driveshafts, subframe, mounts, ecu all need work)
Engine swaps quite rightly split opinion on here and everywhere you go.
From my perspective (10 + years driving a Switf GTI conversion) they are great, loads of power, great reliability and cheap to do, however I respect all the other peoples opinions ... swaps are like Marmite, you either love them or hate them.

Hi,
I've read a lot of people don't like the extra weight in the front or maybe it's the weight is more forward in the front of the car?
I don't know how much heavier the conversions are, shouldn't have thought the Swift was much different?
Cheers ![]()

Was just a question, think ill stick to the Mini lump, though that clubman engine swap looks like a quality transplant
When i weigh up what ill use the Mini for......a to b journeys , im sure the 1000cc lump will be fine, whats it happy cruising at on the motorway???
itll still be better on the motorway than an aircooled VW im sure, cheers for your replys

My 998 in my clubby was quite happy blatting along at 70+ when i took him on my daily commute to Gatwick. Mixture of A roads and motorway.
My wifes old Mayfair would happily do the Stansted run when i lived in Market Deeping, 76 miles each way. Again that was mainly 70mph+ once i hit the A1 all the way down to the M11. 998cc and never missed a beat and i was confident using it as well.

It's certainly one of the easiest swaps, probably the only one I'd do. You can buy the frame, drive shafts and all the other bits, though if you end up getting manifolds fabricated it can end up expensive. Without messing with the engine you'll have 100bhp and a high red-line, it's not a great deal of work to get a good bit more.
The engine is lighter, the gear ratios are decent enough and it fits without butchering more than the inner wings a fraction, so it's not as permanent as the others.
I have a Micra sat ready and I'm slowly gathering the rest of the bits, but I'm OK as my Mini isn't a proper one anyway, it's a Minus, so I don't really have to worry about ruining a classic.

Has anyone done this, but kept the Micra and put a bigger engine in there? I keep looking at mine and thinking it would be a col car if it was properly sorted, but it would need another engine.
I'm thinking a series of cars where you swap the engines down the line, so Mini with Micra engine, Micra (for the wife) with an SR20 in it, then a Primera GT for me, with an RB25. Or something like that. Would be quite a fun way to do it.
