Hi all,
I have just been given a quote for welding the outer sills on my H reg mini.
I need to buy the panels but the quote is £400
Is this about right ? I have no idea.
Thanks all

I can’t help with price as do my own, outer sills often lead to other repairs if being done properly.
Also ensure correct type of sill is fitted

what sills are they -

don't bother if they are oversills as they seem to create rust & cover it up

They're cover sills, good for a quick fix but will cause misery further down the line. Get the standard 4 inch sills fitted

They are better. They'll be magnum sills, I used them on mine, genuine heritage will be double the price

To be honest I don't know. I did my own. The trouble is once you take the sills off you may have to repair other areas. Minis can hide rust very well

To be honest i would chin off Magnum sills period. Try these from M Machine, far better quality

14.32.00.01 Sill, LH, Mk3-on, 6 Flute £19.00 £22.80

14.32.00.02 Sill, RH, Mk3-on, 6 Flute £19.00 £22.80

Now price wise, one hour to take off old sill and clean up. (2 hrs total)

Prep replacement sill, so etch prime, prime and top coat. One hr per sill. (two hours total.)

Now providing its a reputable garage, they will have spot welding equipment, so another hour each side (two hours total)

Paint, now i would do this myself.

So at least six hours worth of work. Now i'm not sure what hourly rate garages charge but say £40 ph then £240.

£200 a side without doing anything else sounds rich to me but then i do all my own.

I would pull the carpet off and check the inner sill, floors and inside the rear companion bins. If they are looking suspect then there won't be too many additional surprises when the outer sills come off. Check with the garage to see if the quote has allowed for a small amount of additional work that they couldn't possibly have seen when quoting. You want some mutual understanding with the garage before they take them off, call you up and you fall out lol.
