All in the title really,  yesterday on Hero Challenge I suffered stalling at virtually every checkpoint.  Only after the first regularity we discovered that if I slowed down gently all was well. If I slammed the brakes on it shut down.

So I tried slipping the car into neutral and sure enough even at 50mph in neutral a quick stab on the brakes engine stopped.

So I did the rest of the day neutral on approach, right foot giving lots of revs and left foot braking to stop.

So what's happening?  I can't think the engines moving about much or shorting something electrical, it's got a heavy weight bracing strut across the thermostat housing to the bulkhead.

Could it be float levels?  Sump oil?

Has anyne experianced this before?

Any pointers? Please.

Engine is 1293 Stage 4 running HS4's.

TIA

I have come across similar issues that turned out to be over fueling/flooding due to fuel surge ( float levels ) but it could also be the opposite due to a breather or servo issue as above or a dead short ??

If the motor cuts out at high revs I would be looking at the electrics but rolling up to a checkpoint off the throttle on the brakes I would go with over fueling.

Brake servo?

Thanks Paul, should have mentioned, No servo fitted, brake the old fashion way, people power.

I do have full rally set-up on brakes so it does stop quickly, 1166 pads and four-pots.

That sounds sensible, I'll look at float levels. Ta

Mine did that when the alternator died. It made just enough power while running but wouldn’t idle. It could also be a bad battery that won’t hold charge?

Thanks, for that timmy850, I'll check that.

Yes I loked for that, can't find anything. I'm getting suspicous of the Dizzy,  it's non-vacuum advance, and the weights and springs inside set the profile........

Solved !!!  Changed the dizzy for new Alden unit, cured !!   Upon inspection I suspect the distributor cap might have been faulty and could have got away with new rotor arm and cap, But didn't have faith in chasing my tail because it could also have been internal or ignighter. However it was a weak spark and I think the problem was heavy braking oil/fuel surge was enough to loose the spark of life.
