Hi all,

Could anyone let me know how I can find out the RAL or British Standard equivalent paint code for the BLVC61 Flame red? Cheers

I strongly suspect you can't!

Other people have asked about this before & as far as i can make out the BS range is the building industry paint colour range (with RAL being the European equivalent) so you won't get an exact match.

It's not the best route to choose unless you've replaced rusty metal with concrete (& yes i have seen it done!!!)

Your car was BLVC818 (Rover COF) but you already know this -so why ask about the earlier BLVC61 (Rover CMB) Flame Red  -Is BLVC61 better looking?

British standard and ral are set common colours, you’ll find something similar but not exact.
There more options in ral than bs. You can pick up colour charts from almost any paint shop.

Thank for the replies guys, I saw a post on here regarding roller painting your car so I thought I’d give it a go myself.

However the shop I went to said they couldn’t match BLVC61, I’m not sure why but they said they could do RAL or BS instead. So I’m just looking for something similar, doesnt have to be exact. I’ll have a look through the colour graphs and see what I find.

There’s no concrete I’m afraid... (thankfully) but there is however a lovely indoor water feature in the passenger footwell! ?

I thought the BLVC61 looked a little darker to the BLVC818 which I prefer as I think it’ll go with the white roof. Maybe I’m overthinking it...

Painting your car is simple they said.... They lied! haha

Hi,

Have a try with Express paints, they advertise supplying classic car paint (in cellulose) and will do a touchup pot for £6.60

http://www.express-p...rush-cellulose/

I've bought quite a few different colours and products from them and more than happy with the results. The service has always been good and prompt. I've just ordered a touch up pot to check the colour and all I gave them was the make and model of the car and that the suggested colour is BLVC1000 Flame Red. Two days later I got a touchup pot that seemed pretty damn close. I intend to spray a small test sample this weekend to see how it works through an air brush.

That's not the first time i've heard of a paint shop giving that response.

I take it that it was a paint shop you were in & not Homebase :P

Keeping the same paint colour isn't that important on your car (did you work out what model your Mini is?) so go for whatever shade you want.... preferably any shade of any colour except red - i hate red :whistling:
