Hi All

Please can you help me id my engine - its a bit wierd so I need a second opinion, Also the VIN number is no help as it is a 1979 roundnose 1000.

The engine number is 12A2BG03-3628 [or possibly 12A2BG03-xx3628 as the plate is pretty corroded]

The block casting number is WFM1024

the head is 12G9-408

To my mind (and research) this all seems to point to unleaded 1275 A+

[1275cc, 1990 onwards prefix: 12A/2B - Carburettor and catalyst type... https://www.minimani...n_Data_UPDATED]

However, the clutch has the long arm (6") of a pre-verto, with the pre-verto 'wok' but it also has a locking nut with the top hat thing that I thought was only off a verto. Attached is a picture (not mine) but of what my clutch looks like.

Could the previous owner have used the orginal 1979 pre-verto clutch with a replacement block and head?

Any help to confirm with id for the block/head, capacity/year,  or clutch would be great

also, can you get new engine plates made for when I refurbish it??

Thanks

UT

Thanks nick

So pre-verto clutch must go with a later box?

If so, and assuming the clutch and box are from the original mini 1000, what would the final drive be?

Also - not enough info? you mean bored out info? I dont have that yet as Ive not had a look.

nope you can use whatever you want you have three parts the engine. the gearbox and tranfercase and the clutch assy mix and match as you want

FD could be anything. most likely a 3.44 as that was the most common but as the power unit has been played with it could be anything.

Mark Huthurts 'Anatomy of the Mini' + Minispares 5th Edition Catalogue gives the following info-

12A2BG03 (WMF1024) = May 1992 on, 9.4CR, 3.1FD. (Oil feed pipe from block to oil filter should have an olive instead of a banjo bolt & have a smaller thread then previous lumps).

12G9048 = Unleaded version of the 12G904

What markings are on the gearbox?, it might be the original 1979 (3.44FD) DAM3220 or the (probable) DAM4148 from this later engine -but there's no saying what FD was fitted when this 'bitsa' was built just by looking at the casing.

Plenty of people supply stamped replacement engine plates, first one that came up on Google-  https://www.minispor...ine-number.html
