Ok, I got to putting the wiring back on my car only to find the ignition switch had pretty much gone, possible repair but tricky. So thought try get new one, no where to be found, one mini shop said they we're like hens teeth, another said this type for a 71 clubman was only used for a couple of years.

Anyway to get to the point, I thought with it been the British motor company there is no way they'd only produce a switch like this for a couple of years and not use it on another car, and sure enough after a bit of research found the same one on the old MG's! just ebay part number BHA5292. Fits no problem, one extra wire on it but the relevent ones that are needed and in the correct place corosponding with the turning of the key are there. I'm sure this will save someone the headache of searching and possibly a lot of money for what someone is calling a very rare switch.

This is the steering  lock set up in question, the so called rare one.

Now this is the two switches next to each other spot the difference, the one on left is the original one.

The MG one has different end so just needs cutting of and fitting correct conectors, make sure you get the correct wire connected though.

Thought would put a pic of the steering column shroud, an easy way of telling if these switches are relevant without removing the shroud.

If you can find a source for the steering column shroud pictured it would be great - mine is currently held together with gaffer tape!

Sorry can't help you with that unfortunetly the mg ones are totally different, but they do pop up on ebay every now and again, there is one on at the moment ebay item number 132800353438 found it when looking for the switch. They aren't the strongest of units are they.

Or item No. 292750693257

This is from my Clubman estate, but to be honest not sure what other mini's these where used in, I'm sure they used it in other mini's, but that's why I put the pic up so people could see if this post is relevant.

That's the same cowling as my 72 mini 1000 has, and my 71 clubman estate and 71 mini 850 had.
Mk2's and very early mk3's had a longer slender cowling without a key hole as they didn't have a column lock

The cowling is for cars with one stalk & a steering lock, roughly '71 to '76.
