Ok, I got to putting the wiring back on my car only to find the ignition switch had pretty much gone, possible repair but tricky. So thought try get new one, no where to be found, one mini shop said they we're like hens teeth, another said this type for a 71 clubman was only used for a couple of years.
Anyway to get to the point, I thought with it been the British motor company there is no way they'd only produce a switch like this for a couple of years and not use it on another car, and sure enough after a bit of research found the same one on the old MG's! just ebay part number BHA5292. Fits no problem, one extra wire on it but the relevent ones that are needed and in the correct place corosponding with the turning of the key are there. I'm sure this will save someone the headache of searching and possibly a lot of money for what someone is calling a very rare switch.
This is the steering lock set up in question, the so called rare one.
Now this is the two switches next to each other spot the difference, the one on left is the original one.
The MG one has different end so just needs cutting of and fitting correct conectors, make sure you get the correct wire connected though.
