I know this has been discussed, but most of the discussions I found are years old.

Feel free to throw things at me but this is the situation.

I am working my way through restoring an RSP Cooper with 22K miles. I have now reached the engine bay, and am trying to decide what to do while the engine bay is pretty empty (don't know if i will remove engine and subframe but it does not look necessary).

I have the manifold off and will box it so the car can be returned to standard someday, but until that day my plan is this:

Solid mounts on turret and floor.

Improved manifold and exhaust.

and then, a bit more power retaining standard cam, gearbox and brakes

Option 1 is a supercharger from Mini speed. I can't find much feedback on what it's like but it seems a good kit. The advantage is it is not to stressful on the engine and can easily be removed to revert to standard. Cost c£1,950.

Option 2 is the official John Cooper kit from Mini sport, includes exhaust system etc, but would probably never be removed. Cost c£3,400

Bearing in mind it is a low milage car in good nic and probably worth most in standard form, and will be a keeper, I would love any feedback or ideas.

Many thanks

Ed

Mini Speed no longer exist unfortunately. If you seach for The Car Kitchen, Alex worked for Mini Speed, and can build you a good engine. I would advise you to fit a turbo, if going forced induction. It's far more efficient, and many other benefits. Lots of other good engine builders around, including Crafted Classics Tuning LTD, Turbo Mini.com. If you prefer N/A I would definitely consider the BMW 16V, k1200rs, cylinder head conversion.

:highfive:

VMax was second choice for supercharger route, I did not know Mini speed had gone!

Regarding turbo, I am really after a more linear curve and prefer superchargers, efficiency wise it won't get out much so thats not really a problem!

Off to look at the BMW conversion.

Cheers

Not sure what the MiniSport JC kit includes, but a decent cylinder head, high-lift rockers maybe, improved inlet, exhaust and ignition system + a rolling road session would probably give a good return and maybe leave you with change to pick up another engine that you could start rebuilding for forced induction/BMW head conversion

That is pretty much what the JC kit has, the extra grand or so gets you a plaque for the floor, and listed on the 'official' register.

At 3.5K you could probably do what you suggested and have enough over to buy another car!
