Hello, I'm slowly redoing the wiring, and I can't understand the wiring going to the gear change box. I didn't find any picture of how it's meant to be.

I have three wires splitting into four. All connections are broken so don't know what's supposed to be where. Can anybody help me please?

well the 'Canadian mini has a number of safety features and most of these wires will be related to that.

so how much of the wires depends on what you are going to use.

A 77 Mini for the CA market would not have the built in reverse light.  They had MkIII rear lights and a reverse light attached to the rear valance below the big ugly bumper.
Not sure why they wouldn't have ( maybe they did ) use the same wiring as the MkIV lights.

The only other differences in wiring I can think of is the seat belt buzzer, dash light dimmer, carb dashpot heater.

are you sure? MK3 had the reverse light build in and they were fitted from 76 on

Not sure if they were the same in the UK or Canada, but we had Reverse Lamps in our Mini Clubman Lamp assemblies, which were the same in appearance and the main body as the MKII UK types. These we had from January 1971.

For the Reverse Lamps, they had a double filament bulb in the Indicator socket, however, each filament was rated 21 watts, an unusual bulb, but still available. One of these was for the Indicator and the other for the Reverse lamp.

In regards to the shifter, I would think it would have had two separate switches fitted to it, one being a Reverse Lamp Switch and the other likely to be either a Top Gear or Neutral Switch. My best guess here is that it is in fact a Neutral Switch, (which is Open when in Neutral, but closed in all other positions). So that when in any gear, and if a front seat is occupied, the seat belt warning will Indicate unless the seat belt is clipped up.

We had MKII tailights and a separate reversing lamp until 1980 I think.

In the diagram, should I look at the ''Seatbelt Warning Gearbox switch''? I thought it would be for the reversing lamp, not seabelt warnings.

Speaking of seat belts, as I changed the seat belts for new ones that don't have any connections, what should I do with the connectors still in place?

cheers, it depends on what you are going to keep/recommission.

not seeing the whole shifter box does not help but guessing there will be one on the side of the box that will be for the reverse light and one on the rear for the neutral start switch. 3 and 4 onto the shown switch.

Yes I just found out that there's another connection on the side of the box! I dug deeper into my old pictures and found this one that explains it. I still have to figure out how to repair the connections that are broken. thanks!

Nicklouse......yes, I'm sure...lol.

The reason we didn't get the built in reverse light and kept the MkIII lights was because of that big beauty of a bumper.

Our Govt. felt that the bumper would hide too much of the light....hence, the centre low mounted one

Import to CA stopped after the 1980 model year
