got a local Bauhaus? they do gas bottles you buy the first and then refill when empty. refills are about 35 Euro. note the bottle fitting for the regulators are different UK to EU and others.

Depending on the gas you want, the regulator fitting is different by the way. If you go for c02, the fitting to the bottle on the gauges is female, and with say boc argashield would be male.
I use c02, bottle is £50 from Boss gasses in Wigan [refunded if you return the bottle], refills are £15, it welds fantastic with my inverter mig. You can weld probably the worst mini start to finish on one bottle. When i had the transformer style mig, I cant quite remember, but i think i just took out the fitting on the outlet port on the gauges, and screwed in a 4mm air fitting. But that was in my case, get your bottle sorted, and gauges, and goto a local hydraulics place, they will sort it out for you for pennies if they charge you at all..
Flux wire is rubbish

I tried welding in a cage in my friends talbot samber with a gasless welder, and went home for my gas welder, i jsut could not get on with it.. My job is welding also by the way!
Co2 mate, it welds so well, easy to get hold of, and refills are cheep. You can practice welding and not have to really worry its costing you too much.

Thanks for all the reply’s really appreciate it, what gas is best as I’ve never welded with gas before I always used gasless before
first find you local supplier that works best for you. if they are always closed when you might need them forget it.
Like i said got a local Bauhaus? they have good Mig gas. got a local Linde? they can also help but only mon - friday. the number of times i have popped into Bauhaus on a Sat Afternoon/evening as i have just run out...... dont go too big on the bottle unless you have a whole car to do.

Over here in the states we use "MigMix" which is 75% CO2 and 25% Argon....inexpensive and lasts....as long as you have the regulator set right. 15-17psi is plenty in a closed shop....ie:no wind blowing thru.

..over here, too. It's called CORGON. But it is the other way round: 18% CO2 and 82% Argon.
And one can buy Argon 4.6 for MIG-Welding Aluminium and Stainless Steel.
