Mini 998, 1989

It was going so well,,,,

Before I changed my clutch I took pictures (attached).

I put it back together after some advice on here but it didn't look right. It looked to be standing proud.

I appear to have buggered up the keyway as it wasn't sat right.

So off to the shop to buy a new keyway and flywheel bolt.

It seems a very tight fit.  Please could someone offer advice so I don't make the same mistake twice???Attached File  20181021_113926.jpg   55.81K   4 downloads

check ithe flywheel is not 180 deg out, the key way is slightly ofsett so the flywheel foes on the correct way, but it will go the wrong way if you force it.

clean up any sharp edges and burrs with a small file,

I could have made a fundamental error here.

I didn't think I had to orientate the flywheel a particular way?

You do need to get the orientation correct. The slot is slightly offset, not on the centreline of the crank.

So you need to get the flywheel slot to line up perfectly with the crank slot - 180 degrees out and they won’t line up properly.

You then need to make sure you put the keyed washer in to align too - if you put this in 180 degrees out the hole in it will be slightly offset to the threads in the crank.

Thank you, I will take a look when I get back.

I'm sure the YouTube video I watched didn't mention that :-)

Don't rely on You Tube only, read the manuals too. :D

Get a mirror and look at the slot. Look at your manual to compare. It is obvious if they are not aligned.
