Hiya
Apologies if there is a thread on this that I haven’t found .. I have looked.

I’ve started to buy parts for a roundnose Cooper S lookalike
Picked up quite a lot of good stuff in job lots and “unfinished projects” ads but not yet managed to find a 1300cc engine.
I have however picked up 2 x 998cc carb’d engines and boxes and wonder whether to build my first motor using the better of the two 998’s ..... or ...... would I just be better holding off for a 1275/1300 base for a 1330 build.

What best I could expect from a built 998 ie Ccs , Bhp and torque and would it be more expensive to go this route

Many thanks
DavidR
PS, one of the projects I bought is a buggy with rear engine , rwd , using two front subframes welded into a tube frame
It’s going to be stripped then remains are going to the scrappy in case anybody is interested.

Mini Classic 1959 - 2000 site on facebook, there is a 1993 1275cc engine and box, done 80K on there for £500 in Wakefield.

A decent head, recurved distributor, good induction and exhaust system should get you over 75 bhp at the wheels (over 80 bhp at the engine) with similar torque figures on a 1275cc engine in good working order. This is pretty much bolt on items.

You will throw at a lot of money at a 998cc to get near that figure.

It is so easy to swap an engine, that if you have two 998, put the better in the car and drive it while you have fun doing up the other and keep looking for a 1300.
