I have been looking for an 1100 crank and have been offered an 1100 block with Crank, Pistons and Cam Shaft.

It has been pocketed to fit a 1275 head and I think it is a Pre Verto.

The crank has 12G82 stamped on it so its the one I am looking for. It looks OK, apart from surface rust, but won't know until it is out. What else should I check?

We measured the block today (only had a tape measure, it measured about 67mm so I guess it has already been bored? As according to this the standard 1098 should be 64.58mm. If it is 67mm what bore size is that and could it be bored again?

Is it worth buying the block and crank?

I already have two A pluses that could be used as donors for the 1098 build.

Thanks

The standard bore size is 2.543". The good news is you can use any 998 block. They are the same. Pistons are also avialable from CalverST at 68mm this will stretch that girl to 1219cc!

So if this 1100 block is 67mm then it’s been rebored, but to what oversize?

I am trying to decide on a 1079, 1098 or 1293.

As soon as I think I have mad up my mind I find out something else that make me rethink.

If I did an 1100 Should rather do it on an A+ Verto?

This 1100 block has been pocketed so would I encounter any issues putting my 12G295 head on it? Or I guess I’d be better of using another 998 block.

I wonder if anyone would by the block off of me?

Mind you I imagine a 1219 long stroke would produce some serious Torque!

Could be +0.080 or +0.100" over size, pistons are available. However a rule is not the best for bore measuring. You need it measured a lot more accurately.

The 1100 was replaced by the 1300 and the 1300 by the A plus for good reasons.

If you have the experience of Mr. Dodd, sorting out an 1100 can be satisfying, but from what you write, in your situation the availability and the spares make a 1300 A plus the best choice for you.

But surely with the correct guidance and tools building an 1100 is the same as any other engine? All machining will be done by an experienced machine shop and I will just put it together.
I have two A + Engines complete and a 12G295 head and also have a couple of 1100 cranks that I can get my hands on.

I am only undecided about my choices because I am still drawn to the originality of a small bore rather that a big lump.

No.

Not to necessarily say one is better then the other (though some are), but the each have their strengths & weaknesses as well as their own characteristics, not just in 'torque' and Horsepower, but where and how that is made and delivered.

I also cover much of the differences of the 1275 over the small bores in your other thread.
