hello all, first post in over 9 years (just got another mini and wondered why it wasnt sooner) so,

long story short, ive only just got her running after buying a few days ago, a 1990 mini city 998. someone had fitted the wrong coil so i removed the balast wire, rewired everything coilrelated and it seems to be running very poorly, i have rebuilt and set the dizzy and it fired to life, waiting on a timing light tomorrow and i can check that side, already ordered a new coil leads blah blah.

so, i wish to dump the waxjet, the price of hif38 are crazy these days so ill be sticking with the hs4, the car also has a maniflow and a cracked airbox so will probably grab an open filter and gop from there, so any recomendations on a starting point? ive forgotten more than i remember about minis and need some advice on fixed jet size/type (red 90?) spring and needle, hoping someone can steer me in the right direction befor i rip the carb off again to replace bits?

thanks all

love being back!!!

I've seen a conversion done with a £1 coin replacing the waxstat disc.

I have one on my mk3 but I think I used a couple of 2 penny pieces or it might have been 1 pennys..........BARGAIN :)

There we go, it was two 1 pennys.

Personally I would keep the standard air box but if you insist on making your life harder in regards to getting it running Ok at least tape up the cracked airbox and get the motor running great first so you are not adding to the many variables that could be causing the poor running you already have.

guess ill be giving this a go,want the waxstat removed as a variable and this is alot cheaper than replacing. was thinking the same with the filter but thought someone might have a better starting point than me straight up guessing at the jet/standard equivilant.. still need to order some needles/jets/springs eventually as lets face it, airboxs look really crap :D

thanks all so far
